who, what, why

I'm moving to Germany. There. I've finally written it down. I've been with my partner for 4.5 years and during that time, we have maintained a long distance relationship. So folks, when people say it can't be done, don't believe them for a second. It takes a lot of work, a lot of airline points and great phone carrier service (I still wince when I think about the first bills that used to arrive after 7 hour marathon conversations before I switched to a call plan).

I feel a little weird writing posts - I set up this blog mainly as a means for friends and family to keep up with what promises to be an interesting new life, but at the same time, had severe misgivings about laying my feelings and experiences out in a public forum. For the sake of privacy I shall be a little oblique about me and what my partner does. He'll be known as B, is an American of German descent, speaks the language and has a gloriously well paying job at a Dusseldorf based company. Lord knows we'll need the money; I'm moving to Dusseldorf with no job, just my savings, and will be going to school full time and eventually get a new job.

About me: I currently live in San Francisco and until recently, had a nice job working at a biotech company. I decided to finally make the move to Germany for a) love, b) to be completely out of my comfort zone, and c) to fulfill a life long dream of living in Europe. I hope you will join me in this adventure. I promise to minimize the whining, the complaining and the bitchery but my friends already know that I wouldn't be me without small doses of it. Let the games begin...
